The fundamental role that tourism plays in the economic development of the country is sustained in an environment of widespread slow economic growth. Thus, this activity represents 8.7% of the national GDP, provides more net currencies than oil, manufacturing and trade, employing more than 3.5 million people.

In this way, it is true that the contributions that tourism makes to the economies of the countries are important. It is very possible that the most significant effects of this activity are reflected in the improvement of the living conditions of people.

It is clear that Mexico is still far from achieving its full potential in this area, which necessarily requires a deep reflection to define where we are, defining an agenda, which will set a path for Mexico to reach a new state of tourism development. Once again the ability of tourism to contribute to finding solutions to the great challenges of the country requires thinking big and long-term vision.

The main objective of this Congress is to review the current situation of the country's tourism industry, recognizing the great world trends, in order to identify the immediate opportunities and challenges.
